Professor Jane Coad of the Centre for Innovative Research Across the Life Course, appeared on BBC 1 Panorama on Monday the 16th of July, on an episode entitled Fighting for My Child, which covered the emotional and emotive issue of families caring for young children with severe complex and life limited needs.

The film followed the lives of 3 families, and Jane visited one of the families in their home. Professor Jane Coad’s research has focused on 3 main areas around children with complex needs:

  1. Influencing policy change in the service provision for palliative care, which was taken up in NICE Guidelines – published by Together for Short Lives – after research was undertaken, funded by BIG Lottery Fund.
  2. Exploring the skills and knowledge professionals need to care for the growing needs of this group, and
  3. Research into increasing technology including blended diet.

Jane currently holds a clinical professor of nursing in both University Coventry & Warwickshire Hospital and University Nottingham Hospital.
