In a bid to accelerate global climate action and foster a greener future, Coventry University academics have taken part in a digital campaign called ‘Transforming the World to Sustainability’.
As part of the campaign, a series of short films have been produced which aim to motivate businesses to exchange knowledge with one another about decarbonisation, circularity, energy efficiency, research, training, green skills, sustainable finance, and new technologies.
Spearheaded by IEMA (the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment) and media production company, Content With Purpose (CWP), the initiative enlisted the support of researchers from Coventry University's Centre for Business in Society (CBiS).
CBiS’s videos showcase current research being undertaken within the centre’s Sustainable Production and Consumption portfolio, including initiatives aimed at re-shaping industries and communities, from combating food insecurity to revolutionising supply chains.
One video highlights Professor David Bek’s sustainability work in the cut-flowers industry, where his collaboration with global flower supplier FleuraMetz has not only increased access to Fairtrade markets, but has also enhanced transparency and accountability in the supply chain, bridging the gap between producers and consumers.
Also featured is the inspiring work of Professor Lyndon Simkin and Dr. Marsha Smith which demonstrates the power of collaboration in addressing food insecurity. Partnering with organisations like FareShare Midlands, the researchers have innovated ways to redistribute surplus food and establish social eating spaces in rural areas, ensuring access to nutritious meals for vulnerable communities amidst the UK's cost of living crisis.
I am immensely proud to see our research feature in this campaign to showcase the transformative work that we are doing around sustainability. By delivering these positive outcomes for the natural environment, we are fulfilling our mission to promote responsibility, to change behaviours, and to achieve better outcomes for economies, societies and the individual.
Professor Lyndon Simkin, Director of the Centre for Business in Society
