Part 1: What is AI and what can it do as we start 2025?

  • Speaker: Dr Matthew England
  • Summary: Introductory lecture on the AI landscape as we start 2025. Covering the different types of AI out there and some of the possible use cases; what AI can currently do (and what it currently cannot). What the opportunities are, and what the dangers are.

Part 2: How to spot good data science from bad data science?

  • Speaker: Prof. James Brusey
  • Summary: Introduction to the basic idea of using machine learning models to make predictions from data (which underpins what we now call AI). Will cover some of the common errors that can be made when employing this technology which could lead to inaccurate or unethical conclusions.
