Event details

Funded by a Priority Area Award from the ESRC Impact Accelerator Account, Dr Lindsay Balfour and Dr Adrienne Evans, researchers from Coventry University, will be hosting a two-day summit at the CU Brussels Hub, on the subject of preventing technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV).

The summit will bring together those working in policy, government, advocacy, education, and the technology sectors to network, discuss best practice for technology design, and brainstorm preventative strategies to ameliorate gender-based violence in the digital sphere. The event will include a panel discussion, workshops, a “no-code” hackathon and design forum, and roundtable discussions. The summit’s theme is Future Proofing Digital Harms with an emphasis on gender-based violence in artificial intelligence and immersive technologies.

The Brussels summit catalyses work across the UK and EU, which includes collaborators from Universidad Complutense de Madrid and Spanish not-for-profits FemBloc, Márgenes y Vínculos, ANAR, and Diagrama, among others, and UK-based organisations Chayn and Refuge. Together with the above partners, this event will also serve as the launch of our co-built framework for TFGBV prevention. This framework provides a commitment to targeting TFGBV at the government and policy level; a ‘mapping’ of impact actor networks across the UK and Spain for future collaboration; and a “future proofing” for emergent trends around digital violence including the use of AI and immersive technologies.

This is an invitation-only event including European policymakers and Members of Parliament, not-for-profit organisations and advocacy groups, technology companies and stakeholders, and academics.
