Event details

This event will discuss how an environmental theme was incorporated into Coventry UK City of Culture 2021 and with what impacts.

This webinar examines how appreciation for the natural environment was integrated into Coventry UK City of Culture 2021 and how people’s attitudes and behaviours towards the environment have changed as a result. This is the first time that there has been an explicit focus upon the natural environment within a UK City of Culture programme of activities.

The webinar is based upon the findings of a focus study commissioned by the Coventry UK City of Culture 2021 Trust which has assessed how the integration of an environmental theme into a major cultural event has played out has played out. The webinar will explore:

  • How the natural environment theme came to be an explicit focus within Coventry UK City of Culture 2021.
  • How people experienced environmental activities and events within the programme
  • How the behaviours of organisations, communities and individuals were influenced.

The webinar will showcase a video which highlights how people and communities engaged in environmentally themed events.

The webinar will conclude with discussion about the learnings from the research and will make recommendations for future events which seek to integrate environmental dimensions within a cultural event.
