Abstract

Management scholars have long recognised the value of big data to understand the past and predict the future. When a “black swan” event such as the COVID-19 related global crisis happens, it is observed that data analytics offers an effective pathway to make sense of the event. In this paper, we explore the methodological innovations in big data analytics and how they can be better utilised to examine contemporary management topics and the global grand challenges of modern times. Against the backdrop of the pandemic, data analytics offers significant opportunities to scholars across the developed and developing economies interested in studying future employment trends, global crisis and its impact on innovation and knowledge sharing, business resilience driven by the digital and analytics capabilities, and the future functioning and sustainability of global supply chains. In the light of these promising areas, we encourage the management research community to explore various analytical approaches to support the efforts made globally and locally to deal with unprecedented challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic and its aftermath.
