Coventry University continues to help researchers around the world to have an impact on communities on a local and global level.

The university has worked with organisations in Indonesia for a number of years to help strengthen the country’s research capacity and will now welcome PhD students to Coventry as part of the latest programme.

Participants in the postgraduate programme will carry out their major research in Indonesia and spend two months on visits to Coventry University after a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with the National Research and Innovation Agency in Indonesia, known as BRIN.

The MoU is the first Degree by Research programme between BRIN and a UK university.

Over the past five years we have worked to create greater opportunities for researchers in Indonesia and elsewhere, and this collaboration allows us to build on that work.

We pride ourselves on producing meaningful research that has a real-life impact for communities across the globe and look forward to seeing what the university and BRIN can create together.

Professor Richard Dashwood, Vice Provost (Research and Enterprise) and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) at Coventry University

We strongly encourage the Degree by Research programme with overseas universities to strengthen Indonesia's research and innovation ecosystem through global research collaborations, joint supervision, mobility programs and improvements to Indonesia's research infrastructure and facilities.

We extend our gratitude and appreciation to Coventry University for realising our vision and mission, as mandated by BRIN, to strengthen human resource capacity through research activities. I hope this collaboration will be long-lasting, providing significant benefits to both Coventry University and BRIN.

Professor Edy Giri Rachman Putra, Deputy Chairman for Human Resources of Science and Technology at BRIN

Building on Coventry University’s dual award PhD collaboration work with other leading universities in Indonesia including Institut Teknologi Bandung, Universitas Sepuluh Nopember and Universitas Indonesia, an MoU has also been signed with an Indonesian institution – University of North Sumatera - aiming to develop double-degree PhD programmes supported by industry, as well as academic staff exchanges and exploring joint research initiatives.

By introducing the first UK–Indonesia dual PhD award programme with the University of North Sumatera, co-founded by industry, we are opening new opportunities for collaboration andknowledge exchange. It is a move that demonstrates our commitment to supporting the next generation of researchers in both countries.

Professor Benny Tjahjono, Coventry University’s Director of Research Engagement for Indonesia

The two agreements follow Coventry University being the only UK higher education institution selected by the Indonesian Ministry for Higher Education, Research and Technology to deliver a doctoral bridging programme preparing the country’s higher education academics for PhD studies.
