Clearing 2020 has proved to be a busy one for students, with confusion over A level and BTec grades adding to the mix of emotions on what is always a frantic time.

Many students will still be looking for the place they will call home as they make decisions that will alter the course of their futures.

CU London, part of the Coventry University Group, offers a style of education which is flexible and designed to fit around students’ lives.

They can choose from a wide range of career-relevant courses and study at a pace that suits them.

Students who study at CU London benefit from a modern, forward-thinking higher education institution, reinforced by the quality and reputation of Coventry University.

Here, three students explain why they chose to study at CU London.

My future ambition is to further my studies and become a social worker. I’m already working in health and social care, so I want to empower myself through a degree. I’m the first person in my family to take this path and I want to keep making them proud by completing this degree.

I chose my course because I like helping people and making a difference. The tutors are good and very supportive. They have all the knowledge we need and go out of their way to make sure that we learn. The classes are very small, so you have one-to-one support when you need it.

The benefit of not having the end of year exams is that I don’t have to push myself to breaking point by studying for exams overnight – I can study at my own pace and have enough time to prepare for assignments. I get student finance and work on the side. It’s much more affordable than many other courses and you get the benefit of being able to pay per module.

Alongside my course, I’m a healthcare assistant working with people with mental health, drug, alcohol and dementia issues which means I do apply my course to my job. I’ve done volunteer placements to get better insights into drug and alcohol abuse and had a careers advisor at CU London help me get the placement.

I’m a single mother and I want to spend time with my child so not having the end of year exams is helpful. The CU model means I don’t have to worry and I have more time for myself. The course fits around my son and I still have time to drop him at nursery and be on time for classes. I joined CU London because I want to make him proud, find a better job and be his inspiration.

I contacted CU London after reading the website and I thought it would be much easier to secure a spot through Clearing. I was 100 per cent supported by very helpful staff.

My advice would be to just believe in yourself. The staff are very helpful and interesting. They are very clear and good at communicating. You can ask them as many questions as you like.
The best thing about being a student is the environment at CU London. The facilities are modern and beautiful.

Coming from Belgium, I always wanted to study in English. In this education system, you don’t just learn from memory, but also develop soft skills and the ability to research. There’s so much to do – London is a big city and multicultural so I feel at ease and at home.

CU London really helped me through Clearing, it was a fast process and I was really happy with the system. I started my application late but they helped me through it. I didn’t think I could start in September but managed to do everything in one month.

The course has small class sizes which also mean you are closer to classmates and can build a better relationship with them. For me, it is the people, staff and students who make CU London a fantastic place to study.
