About

Adelina is an experienced academic who has been at Coventry University since 2014. She is a dedicated lecturer who is looking for contemporary ways of teaching and widening participation to Architecture, Engineering and Construction courses. She has a passion for teaching through experience, by taking students on international fieldtrips to work on projects in collaboration with local partners, incorporating research into teaching and facilitating student participation to national design competitions with TRADA and the Concrete Centre with great success.

Adelina is course director for the new BEng (Hons) Architectural Engineering course with the first cohort starting in September 2023, supporting students though their university journey and working with professional bodies to ensure the quality of delivery on the course.

Career overview

Adelina was shortlisted for the Tamayouz design award in 2013 for her final year BSc (Hons) Architecture design project creating a new home for the Centre for Trust, Peace and Reconciliation Studies in Coventry city centre, and for a Teaching Excellence award in 2015. She has completed her MSc in Research with the Centre or Water and Agroecology at Coventry University in 2023 with a thesis titled ‘Design criteria for social spaces and a healthier university campus. A Coventry University case study?’. In addition to the MSc, Adelina also has a PGCHE.

Research

Adelina is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has also published research in education, from her experiences of using holistic methods to teach design to engineering and architecture students. She was Course Director for summer schools aimed at improving participation of women in STEM with a focus on Construction and is a member of the Women in Engineering Society. Other outreach activities include university days for children starting at primary school.

External activities

Having been involved in multiple research projects with the ERASMUS+ programme, and working with partners from around the world, Adelina has been part of the organising committee for several conferences and has a leading role in the end of year symposiums at Coventry University, acting as editor of the showcase book each year.
