Agenda and speakers

  • 10:30am Welcome - Brinder Rajpal, Academic Developer, Academic Enhancement and Professional Development
  • 10:35am University Social Responsibility: A Primer

This talk will tackle forms of university social responsibility with a particular focus on those that have an impact on student learning. A university that is committed to addressing societal challenges and contributing to the development of its community is said to be a socially responsible institution. Service-learning, which is a form of experiential education, combines learning objectives with community service to provide a pragmatic, progressive learning experience while meeting societal needs. Examples of student-led service-learning projects will be presented and discussed to shed light on how student engagement with local communities reinforces learning in real-world situations that otherwise would not be possible to simulate in the classroom.

  • 10:50am Making Large Scale Assessed Groupwork Work Well - the Tale of Two Modules

This presentation will share how lessons learned about assessment of and for learning from a module, helped inform the assessment redesign of another. This case highlights successful use of group work, Padlet, and class activities to track assessment progress and create opportunities for group co-creation and cohesion. The assessment redesign enhanced student progression and supported ease of marking and feedback.

  • 11:05am Transforming Lives through Service Learning: Empowering Communities and Enhancing Employability

A showcase of how Level 4 students at Coventry University Wrocław worked on a service-learning project that aimed to empower small business owners and senior entrepreneurs who possess limited knowledge of social media platforms. Following a preliminary needs assessment and then throughout the course of the project, students created a step-by-step social media guide to inform the target audience about the potential of social media as a powerful marketing tool, enabling them to effectively utilise these platforms to have more market visibility, boost their revenues, and upgrade their businesses.

  • 11:20 – 11:30am Break
  • 11:30am Unlocking Potential & Empowering Diversity through Coventry University's Black Interns Project
