Meet Nancy Batra
Nancy Batra, an MBA International Marketing graduate who bravely left her home city of Lucknow, India, to study at Coventry University London. She stepped into a world that felt both exciting and unfamiliar. As her first time living away from home, Nancy had to adjust to a whole new country, while living independently at the same time.
Studying in London was a huge leap of faith, but with Coventry University London’s support and opportunities, Nancy grew both personally and professionally. She built confidence in the classroom, secured internships through university connections, and completely transformed her perspective on what she is capable of.
Making history at graduation
Standing in her gown on the day of her graduation ceremony, Nancy couldn’t help but reflect on the personal journey she had been on. She broke away from tradition and decided to follow her own path.
“It feels like the biggest achievement to be graduating today. My sister asked me earlier why I was so excited, saying, ‘It’s not like it’s your wedding day.’ For many girls in India, a wedding is considered the most special day, but for me, this is my moment. I’m the first in my family to study abroad. I came to a new country, completed my master’s, and made history in my home.”
Deciding to study in London was a milestone in itself for Nancy, but once she got stuck into her master’s and made the most of everything the university had to offer, she continued to go from strength to strength.
Studying at Coventry University London
As someone keen to secure a career in marketing, Nancy chose to study in London for the abundance of career opportunities the city promised. She also liked the idea of studying with peers from all over the world with Coventry University London’s strong international community, as well as learning under a career-focused teaching style.
Despite all the excitement, moving away from home had its challenges. Nancy describes her first few weeks as ‘a bit confusing and overwhelming’, but the support she found on campus quickly changed all of that.
Success Coaches: Weekly sessions with her assigned coach helped Nancy set practical goals to work on. She also provided Nancy with useful links and resources to help her settle in.
Student Counselling: During a difficult point in her studies, Nancy reached out for emotional support. This is something she now encourages other international students to do without hesitation, as the therapy service got her the help she really needed.
Library and Academic Skills: As someone who initially didn’t feel confident about presentations, Nancy spent hours practising in the library’s study rooms until she felt ready for each assessment.
Career opportunities on campus
One of the most pivotal moments during Nancy’s time at university came during a guest lecture on campus. A speaker from a London-based marketing firm visited as part of a networking event. Nancy introduced herself and connected with the employer:
“We had a good conversation, where he told me he thought I could be a perfect fit for his company, and that’s how I landed the position.”
This connection led Nancy to an internship, which she describes as her ‘first step into the professional world of marketing’. She is now completing an internship with an AI-powered business platform that helps entrepreneurs turn ideas into real companies. This position is exactly the type of role Nancy had hoped to achieve when she left home to begin her studies.
A message to future students
Given all the opportunities and success that she experienced during her time at Coventry University London, Nancy encourages all future students to be brave and take those steps towards their future, however big they may seem.
“Just go for it without overthinking the outcome. Studying abroad might feel challenging, but it prepares you for the future. Someone once told me that if you can crack a job in London, you can do anything.”
Nancy’s story should be taken as inspiration to get out there and do it. If you have a professional dream, who’s to say you can’t cross continents and achieve it?
New beginnings
We do not doubt that Nancy will go on to do amazing things in her career, and we feel proud that she chose Coventry University London to provide her with the groundwork to take on the professional world by storm.
