Before you return

What to do before you return

Update your contact details

If your details are wrong, you may miss essential updates about your course, timetable, assessments and enrolment.

Get your finances in place

Your funding or payment arrangements must be finalised before you can re-enrol. If re-enrolment is blocked in SOLAR, it is often because a finance step is outstanding or your funding has not been confirmed yet.

Confirm your support needs

If your wellbeing, disability or learning support needs have changed since last year, let us know before teaching begins.

Start your course (Aula)

Aula is your online learning platform. You’ll use it to access your modules, see announcements, and find key information for the new academic year.

Explore your learning resources

Before teaching starts, it’s worth checking you can access the key tools and resources you’ll need for your modules.

Keep an eye on your student email

Your student email is where we’ll send important updates, especially at the start of the academic year.

Confirm your support needs

If your wellbeing, disability or learning support needs have changed since last year, let us know before teaching begins.

Check your course details are correct

Before you re-enrol, make sure the information in SOLAR reflects your correct course and study details. If something in SOLAR is incorrect, it can affect your timetable and assessment access later in the year, so it is best to fix it before you re-enrol.

Get your tech ready

Avoid access issues on your first day by checking your devices and logins ahead of time.

Update your contact details

If your details are wrong, you may miss essential updates about your course, timetable, assessments and enrolment.

Sort your accommodation or travel

Make sure your living or commuting arrangements are confirmed before term starts.

Collect or update your student ID card

Your student ID card helps you access buildings and services on campus. If you’re returning to study, it’s a good idea to sort this early so you’re not delayed in Week 1.

Visit your student support areas

Support is available across wellbeing, disability support, academic skills and the library. If you think you might need help this year, getting in touch early can make things feel more manageable.

Reconnect with careers and placements

If you’re preparing for a placement year, final year, or graduate roles, it’s worth reconnecting early so you can plan ahead.

Update your healthcare details (if needed)

If you’ve moved since last year, it’s important to make sure your healthcare details are up to date - especially if you’ll be living at a new term-time address.

See what’s new in Your Students’ Union

Your Students’ Union is a great place to find activities, meet people and settle back into your routine.

Check campus updates

Facilities and access points can change between academic years. Checking what’s changed before you arrive can help you feel prepared and reduce stress in Week 1.

Check your timetable release date

Your timetable will be released ahead of teaching. If your timetable is not visible yet, it may not have been released for your course, or your progression and modules may still be updating.
