COMMONWEALTH SCHOLARSHIPS FOR DEVELOPED AND DEVELOPING COMMONWEALTH COUNTRY CITIZENS

Fund Value: Range of support available

Criteria: There are a range of scholarships that can be applied to these are for applicants not current students, these will be advertised on the commonwealth website when the applications are open.

CROUCHER FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS (FOR STUDENTS FROM HONG KONG)

Fund Value: Range of support available

The awards are intended to enable applicants who are permanent residents of Hong Kong to commit themselves to full-time study or research in the following areas; natural sciences, medicine or technology. 

Criteria: The full-time study or research must take place in an approved academic institution outside of Hong Kong. Applicants must have obtained a First Class Honours in their first degree.

POSTGRAD SOLUTIONS STUDY BURSARIES

Fund Value: £500

Criteria: If you have been accepted to start a postgraduate course in the academic year 2016-17, you could apply for a Postgrad Solutions Bursary of £500. There are a range of different types of bursaries and they are open to students from anywhere in the world.

AGA KHAN FOUNDATION

The amount of funding given to a student is decided on a case by case basis. The Aga Khan Foundation provides scholarships for postgraduate studies which are 50% grant and 50% loan in engineering and environmental sciences for students from developing countries.

CHINA SCHOLARSHIP COUNCIL

The China Scholarship Council provides PhD funding to support Chinese citizens wishing to study abroad across all subjects.

ISLAMIC DEVELOPMENT BANK

PhD scholarships are available to support study in the UK for students of IDB member countries in one of these research fields; health and medicine, agriculture and food production, water resources and desertification.

REGENERATION CENTRE OF THAILAND

Fund value: $1500

A scholarship is available for students of ASEAN ancestry, who are looking to gain knowledge in the one of the following fields; healthcare, science, biology and mathematics.

ROBERTO ROCCA EDUCATION PROGRAMME

The programme offers fellowships to students from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, Mexico, Romania and Venezuela. To help fund studies towards a PhD degree in specific fields of study that include Materials Science, Mechanical, and Petroleum Engineering. The amount will depend on each student's financial need.

LEVERHULME TRADE CHARITIES TRUST

Fund Value: up to £3000

Leverhulme Trade Charities Trustees offer bursaries of up to £3,000 per year to UK university students who are in financial need and their parent or spouse is a commercial traveller, grocer or chemist. You can apply for a bursary for each year of your degree, however not for previous years that have been completed. The money can be used for any costs that are related to going to university.

Criteria: To be eligible to apply, you need to be:
• A resident of the United Kingdom
• Studying for a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate degree at a recognised UK university
• The child, spouse, widow or widower of a grocer, pharmacist or commercial traveller; and in 'financial need'.

LOANS

PROFESSIONAL AND CAREER DEVELOPMENTS 

Professional and Career Development Loans are loans from the bank, that can help you pay for your courses and training that will help enhance your career prospects. The amount you can borrow is between £300 and £10,000, they usually have a reduced interest rate and the government will pay for the interest while you are studying. Ideally you will need to apply approximately 3 months before your course is due to start.

You will need to find out which banks offer these loans as they are not available at all banks. Once you have found a bank that offers the loan, you will need to fill in one of their application packs and send it back to the bank. Once the bank has approved your application, you can take out the loan and agree to the repayment options.

Any student can apply as long as they fulfil the requirement set out by the bank. It is available to full time and part time students, however it is subject to a minimum number of hours studied. To be considered for this loan it is ideal that you have a good credit history and fulfil the conditions of the application.

FUTURE FINANCE

Future Finance is a company, that offers loans to students to cover tuition costs or living expenses. A student can borrow anywhere between £500 and £40,000.
