Coventry University is proud to announce that Professor Mike Duncan, Centre Director at the Centre for Physical Activity, Sport and Exercise Sciences, has been shortlisted for the Star Award at the fifth annual Alliance Awards.

The Alliance Awards, organised by University Alliance in partnership with TechnologyOne, celebrate individuals who have made significant impacts within their universities and communities.

This recognition highlights Mike’s outstanding contributions through his team’s unique living lab initiatives, which offer children the chance to engage in sports science experiments, promoting physical literacy and encouraging those with cerebral palsy to develop confidence and motivation in movement skills.

The Living Labs have garnered national attention, with families traveling from across the country to participate. Most recently in February 2024, 10 children with cerebral palsy attended an event, while more than 100 neurotypical children participated in the series of young footballers living labs in 2023 and 2024.

I am honoured that the team and I have been recognised for our living lab events. We are so proud of the research and our ultimate goal is to make a meaningful impact on the lives of young individuals facing unique challenges.

It’s about empowering people and giving them the competence and confidence to help them develop that ability throughout their lives. If you can embed movement skills within the children, then they are more likely to be active in the long-term. Thank you to everyone that supports us and understands the importance of the work we are doing.
