Coventry University students are helping people using weight‑loss injections to build healthier habits and sustain long‑term weight management after they stop using the drugs.

The World Health Organization now recommends that GLP‑1 medications - drugs such as Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro that mimic glucagon‑like peptide‑1, the hormone that regulates blood sugar, appetite and digestion - be paired with behaviour change support to bolster long‑term success.

Dr Nikita Rowley, Course Director for Sport and Exercise Psychology at Coventry University, and her students are collaborating with Everyone Health and Collabor8well on the project to empower people to make lasting changes to their lifestyle.

Students are creating evidence-based practical resources - including blogs, social media content, behaviour‑change tips and physical activity guidance - for a dedicated Collabor8well platform used by Everyone Health customers and private subscribers. The materials are designed to help GLP‑1 users adopt sustainable lifestyle changes such as increasing physical activity, reducing sedentary behaviour, improving diet, focusing on sleep and boosting confidence and body image.

This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to apply their learning in a real‑world setting and make a meaningful impact. Most GLP‑1 users currently take these medications without any behavioural support, even though research shows habits like moving more, eating better and improving sleep are essential for sustaining weight loss once the drugs stop. This project fills that gap and gives students valuable applied experience they can showcase on their CVs.

Third‑year Sport and Exercise Psychology student Aiden Ryley hopes the project will help counter misinformation online and offer clear, evidence‑based support to the public.

I hope this helps people rely not just on the medication but on healthier habits for long‑term wellbeing. Being involved is a real achievement for me - I feel like I’m contributing something that can genuinely help others.

Fellow student Emeke Ezieshi, who is in his second-year, says the initiative has helped him understand how GLP‑1 medications work best when paired with small, sustainable behaviour changes.

This project showed me how psychology can make a real difference to people’s long‑term health and gave me the chance to use what I’ve learned to support real‑world behaviour change.

Sarah Shaw, co‑founder of Collabor8well, says the programme is designed to help people navigate the physical and emotional effects of significant weight loss, and that working with Coventry University is strengthening that approach.

Coventry University is so important to us because our main goal is to show how body and mind go hand in hand. Working with Dr Rowley and her students lets us see what we offer from many different perspectives, enhancing the experience for our users - especially those on GLP‑1 medications.

“We’re proud to be the first to market with this kind of support network, and having Coventry University students involved gives us a strong platform of accessible, high‑quality content for all our subscribers.

As part of the initiative Dr Rowley will also join a new multidisciplinary working group led by Everyone Health, bringing together physical activity specialists, dietitians, behaviour change experts, commissioners, web designers, stop smoking practitioners and healthcare professionals.

We are thrilled to be collaborating with Coventry University on this innovative behaviour‑change initiative. A key strength of the collaboration is the involvement of Coventry University students, who are producing engaging, evidence‑based content for the Collabor8well digital platform.

Their blogs, behaviour‑change insights and physical activity resources bring fresh, practical perspectives that enhance the support offered to people using GLP‑1 medications. By combining academic expertise, student creativity and Everyone Health’s commitment to long‑term wellbeing, this collaboration delivers a unique and impactful support offer for service users.
