Event details

AI is shaping decisions all around us, often in ways we do not see, from analytical systems to the newer generative and agentic tools rapidly entering workplaces and classrooms. This practical in-person session offers a space to ask what these developments mean for our work, our communities and the people who are most affected by these systems.

Across two hours, we will work with real examples, hands-on activities, and focused discussions to uncover how different forms of AI influence decision making, why good data practice matters, and where small biases can become wider structural harm. You will leave with greater insight on recognising the risks, ask better questions and make values-led choices when using or relying on AI tools.

No specialist knowledge required - just an interest in using AI in a responsible and informed way. If you are joining us for the in-person session, bring a laptop so you can join in the hands-on practice.

Aims

  • Gain an understanding of how different types of AI influence decision making in different ways, and why recognising these differences is essential for responsible practice.
  • Explore why strong data practices are critical in reducing unintended bias and preventing wider structural harm.
  • Build confidence in applying an ethics and integrity lens to real cases, considering consequences, impacts on minority groups, and values when using or designing AI tools.
