Hello!
My name is Yujin Choi, and I’m currently studying Psychology BSc (Hons) at Coventry University. Today, I’d like to talk about some of the resources available at the university.
When I first arrived in the UK, I felt nervous and isolated in an unfamiliar environment, surrounded by a new language and new faces. Over time, though, those feelings faded, and now I’m truly enjoying my life here and everything this experience has to offer.
I’d love to share some of the tips that personally helped me overcome loneliness, along with some of the support services offered by Coventry University that you might find helpful.
Ask for Help
One of the most valuable resources I’ve found is the Student Wellbeing Service. Coventry University places a huge priority on students’ mental health, offering a range of free support options, including counselling sessions. I’ve used the service myself, and the booking process was quick and straightforward. Having someone to talk to really helped me feel more at ease.
Meet New People
Another great way to settle in and meet people is by joining ResLife activities. The team organises a wide variety of weekly events for students, from board game nights and smoothie-making sessions to guided city tours around Coventry. I met many of my friends through these events, and there’s always something new to try. You can find more information about ResLife on Instagram (@reslife_covuni), so don’t hesitate to join in and connect with others.
Explore Nature
Taking a walk is a great way to clear your mind. I love how close nature is here, making peaceful strolls easy. War Memorial Park, just 15 minutes from campus, is a favourite spot where I relax on the grass and listen to music. On sunny days, you’ll often see people enjoying picnics, adding to the welcoming atmosphere.
Coventry Canal is my favourite spot. It’s a long, peaceful path that runs along the water, I often go there for a walk or a run. The breeze feels so refreshing, and seeing people walking their dogs always warms my heart. If you go during sunset, the view is beautiful!
Join Societies
Finally, joining Student Union Clubs and Societies is a great way to feel more connected. Coventry University offers a wide range of clubs, from sports and culture to hobbies and academic interests, giving you plenty of opportunities to meet people who share your passions! I’m passionate about dancing, so I joined the K-pop dance society. Sharing the same interest made it easy to connect with others, and I love how students from different countries come together and bond over a shared passion. I hope these tips help you enjoy your time at Coventry University.
