About Us

The Centre for Innovative Research Across the Life Course (CIRAL), was launched in September 2014, bringing together four groups of researchers with the aim of catalysing exciting and novel approaches to developing and harnessing new technologies.

Staffed by a multi-professional team of 30 academics, 22 doctoral researchers and several research associates, our vision is to identify solutions to improve health and wellbeing across the lifespan.

The Centre's mission is to conduct research that will empower children, young people, adults, their families and healthcare providers in disease prevention, management of health and independent living. Our strategic goals are:

  • To be a national research leader in the areas of health and wellbeing of children, young people and families; health behaviours and behavioural interventions and development and evaluation (including health economics) of health and care technologies and services
  • To retain, recruit and develop researchers of the highest calibre and attract the best international and UK based research students, with a particular aim of building productive research teams in our core strategic areas
  • To create a strong, productive and resilient research culture that promotes innovation and collaboration with national and international researchers and to develop collaborations with world leading academic institutions where there are research synergies and complementary expertise
  • To build on our established partnerships with public health organisations, health and social care commissioners and providers, practitioners, policy makers, industry, end-users and the public, in the co- development of  robust research, and to support improved implementation (and thereby improved impact) of our research
