There are different approaches to minimise the negative impact of invasive alien species.
Some species should be fully eradicated, some species can be tolerated and the stratified approach should be used for some. The management methods differ from species to species. In the presentation, approaches for invasive species management are shown based on regional context and practical guidelines for management using examples from different regions in the Czech Republic. Presentation of methods applicable e.g. to tree of heaven (Ailanthus altissima), Japanese knoweeds, Himalayan balsam (Impatiens glandulifera) or giant hogweed (Heracleum mantegazzianum) will be discussed.
Dr Jan Pergl works at the Institute of Botany of the Czech Academy of Sciences as a researcher. Primarily, he is interested in assessing invasive species' impacts,
pathways of introduction, and analyses of large datasets. He cooperates with local stakeholders, policymakers and PAs administrations in developing strategies to
minimize the negative effects of invasive species.
