Media Production student Nick Banister has created an entertaining short film highlighting the highs and lows of speed dating, as part of the SPECTRUM 2012 performing arts festival.

‘Ping’ tells the tale of a guy who has been searching for the love of his life but with no luck. After all kinds of misery along the way he decides to try his hand at speed dating. However this one last attempt to find ‘the one’ brings more than he bargains for.

Nick started the film in October 2011 with ten local actors and additional support from fellow students Josh Hutt and Nick Newitt, before finishing ‘Ping’ in April 2012

Nick, 22, from Leicester, said:

This was my first time directing a major short film but I was keen to take on a challenging final project. The thought of directing these very talented actors was at times anxious and daunting but everyone was on top form, cast and crew alike, and the film really shows that.

Nick is now getting ready to take his film forward for distribution and will be entering it into a number of film festivals.

SPECTRUM 2012 is Coventry University’s annual festival that celebrates the huge diversity of imagination and talent of its final year students. Nick’s film will be shown at the Media Production Degree Show in Coventry on 1st June in the Lanchester Gallery, The Hub, Jordan Well, Coventry.
