Sport and Exercise Science student, Jade Feavyour has just completed one of the most exciting and thrilling experiences of her life – being one of the 70,000 volunteers at London 2012.

Jade, 20 from Market Harbrough, applied for the position two years ago but only found out she’d been successful a month before the games began!

Following some intensive training, and chorography classes, Jade took up her role as a Presenter Escort at both the Olympic and Paralympics Games. This included looking after and escorting the International Olympic Committee members who were taking part in the medal ceremonies.

This key role brought Jade into contact with lots of VIPs including Prince Albert II of Monaco, as well as top athletes like Usain Bolt, Mo Farah and Greg Rutherford. She was even part of the Olympics closing ceremony when she escorted the medal presenters for the men’s marathon, the final event at the ceremony.

During the games, Jade worked one various events across the Olympic Park – including athletics in the Olympic Stadium, cycling in the Velodrome and wheelchair rugby in the Basketball Arena.

Jade said,

The whole London 2012 experience has been amazing but one of my biggest highlights was speaking to Christine Ohuruogu just before she was presented with her 400m silver medal. I asked what her future plans were and she said having fish and chips for her tea as she hadn’t had them in four years!.

Jade is now a taking a well earned break before heading back to Coventry to begin the second year of her sports degree next month.
