The cream of the computing crop at Coventry University is set to show off its talents on Wednesday as students present their best multimedia work at the ‘New Wizards’ film show.

Coventry University’s Department of Computing will be hosting the popular event for the fifth consecutive year as part of its ongoing commitment to promoting undergraduates’ skills and engaging with businesses and potential future employers.

The New Wizards show – whose name refers to those who embrace the latest technologies to create innovative, exciting products – takes place in two parts, the first of which is a ‘showcase’ giving students on courses such as Computing, Games Technology, Ethical Hacking and Computer Science an opportunity to network with industry professionals.

Following the showcase, the film show itself will mark a celebration of the range and diversity of the students’ creative abilities in fields such as 3D modelling, games design, animation and video editing, amongst others.

Peter Every, associate head of computing in Coventry University’s Faculty of Engineering and Computing, said:

We’re proud to be presenting the New Wizards film show both to businesses and to members of the public for the fifth consecutive year. It’s a fantastic opportunity for our students to get their work in the spotlight and to promote themselves and their talents shamelessly to key industry organisations.

Last month’s Budget highlighted just how important the creative industries are to the UK, so for our students to have this chance to show off their technical flair and know-how in such a competitive sector will do their job prospects no harm at all.

The New Wizards film show will be taking place in The Hub, Jordan Well, city centre, on Wednesday 16th May from 1pm-4pm. For more information, visit www.newwizards.com.
