A deputy vice-chancellor for group development and resources has been appointed at Coventry University to lead – amongst other activities – the institution’s financial and estates strategy.

Nigel Alcock joins Coventry University this week from Energetics Networked Energy, where he was the chief financial officer based out of the company’s Midlands office.

Nigel has spent over 25 years working in a variety of financial and commercial roles across a number of industries – including for companies that operate across Europe, the United States and Asia.

He joins Coventry University at a time exciting growth for the institution, with a raft of development projects recently completed or underway in the city – including the £5 million improvement works between Gosford Street and Whitefriars, the £60m Science and Health Building on Much Park Street and the £73m Bishop Gate student accommodation scheme.

Nigel will take the reins from current deputy vice-chancellor for planning and resources, David Soutter, who will retire at the end of March following a 15 year tenure during which he has overseen significant and successful developments in the University’s estate and finances.

Nigel said:

I am very pleased to be joining such a progressive and ambitious University, which is having such a positive impact on so many lives. I am really looking forward to contributing to the next stage of the University’s evolution.”

Vice-chancellor Professor John Latham said:

Nigel will be coming on board as we’re embarking on significant new phases of development in many of the University’s key areas, notably our estates strategy which will see huge investment in the city over the next five years. We look forward to welcoming him as deputy vice-chancellor for group development and resources, and have every confidence that he will make a key contribution to the University’s continued success in the coming years."
