Coventry University recently welcomed Mr Nikolay Pavlov, Deputy Minister at the Bulgarian Ministry of Youth and Sports, to the University as part of an international development programme to foster relations between Bulgaria and Coventry.

During his two day visit, Mr Pavlov met with over 70  Bulgarian students, several academics and distinguished guests to discover more about the opportunities for student recruitment, research, alumni engagement and student mobility that the University can offer within Bulgaria.

We were delighted that the Bulgarian Ministry of Youth and Sport selected Coventry University as their first UK higher education institution to formally establish links with. Deputy Minister Pavlov spent two days with us, exploring ways in which we can further support students with international opportunities that will provide them with a richer educational experience as well as facilitating employment prospects upon graduation.

Gary Armstrong, Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor, International Business Development

The university has its sixth largest international recruitment market from Bulgaria with approximately 150 students accepted per year. Furthermore, Coventry University is excited at the prospect to formally strengthen their ties with Bulgaria and facilitate collaborative exchanges.

The delegation was joined by representatives from the Bulgarian Network of the UN Global Compact. By representing Bulgarian businesses, these guests were able to highlight the various placements and internships available to Bulgarian students currently studying at Coventry University.

Also part of Coventry’s welcoming party, the former Lord Mayor of Coventry John Blundell gave a speech about the collaboration between Coventry and Bulgaria.

We are very proud that Coventry is a truly international city – in the make-up of its people and in its approach to reaching out around the world. And it is wonderful to see young people and students at the heart of it all. Here in Coventry, we are delighted that our student population is growing – and that it is made up of so many nationalities.

Former Lord Mayor, John Blundell
