A Coventry mum was so inspired by her twin children’s journey at CU Coventry that she decided to return to education herself.

Manvinder Dukhi watched closely as her children Baljinder and Harjinder made the most of what CU Coventry, part of the Coventry University Group, had to offer and wanted it for herself.

That was three years ago and this month saw 56-year-old Manvinder, known as Manny, don her cap and gown to celebrate her graduation with a degree in management and leadership at Coventry Cathedral.

This is something I’ve waited on for a very long time. I first knew of CU Coventry when my kids wanted to know about higher education and we came to an open day. We spoke with one of the tutors and the way they spoke was really inspiring.

I was then watching what my children were doing at CU and how they were assessed, and thought I want to give that a go myself.

Manny looked in to doing a course part-time as she was working at Coventry University at the time in the engineering registry team and eventually started on the management and leadership degree apprenticeship course.

It was a big learning curve. I hadn’t been in education as a student for a while so it was a bumpy journey!

There were lots of ups and down but I made lots of lovely friends along the journey. The tutors were absolutely fantastic and very supportive. It was hard work but certainly worthwhile and has opened a lot more doors for me and I’m hoping those doors will continue to open.

Thanks to CU Coventry for giving mum this opportunity while working at the same time. And mum did have to take some time off because of my health as well but it was great that CU could accommodate and support her with that.

We want to say a special thanks to the CU Coventry lecturers as they have played a very big part in our lives. CU Coventry allows individuals of all walks of lives to study with them, by having a more tailored approach, smaller lectures and cohorts which allow for more one-to-one time.

It’s been amazing as we’ve had support from our tutors, as has mum, and to see her finally finish her course has been even better.

CU Coventry offers a different study experience with life-shaped learning that allows students to fit studying into their lives without compromising their other commitments. It offers a wealth of support services, no end of year exams and one module is studied at a time.
