Geoff has 30 years of experience within the aeronautical and advanced manufacturing engineering industry starting out as an apprenticed airframe fitter and development engineer. Geoff’s approach is to always support his work with practical and applied examples which have been personally experienced, in order to provide depth and purpose to the subjects under discussion. With a Post Graduate certificate in teaching and learning Geoff combines academic teaching with his broad on-going practical experience.
Geoff’s experience includes 20 years in research, development and industry, working with a wide variety of technologies, practicing and developing his skills and experience. As a consequence, he has a skill set across a very broad range of engineering disciplines which includes an in depth knowledge of machining within all manual and CNC processes, using a wide variety of work-part materials, including titanium based alloys and matrix composites, using a variety of cutting technologies from high speed steel to ceramics. Knowledge of non-conventional cutting, treatment and welding processes, including CO2, YAG and Diode laser and EDM based systems, experience of jig and fixture design, pattern making, casting and foundry techniques. Geoff also has experience with robotics and automation with regard to both part manipulation and automated assembly.
