Introduction
Hi there! My name is Yujin Choi. I’m currently studying for my MSc in Psychology at Coventry University and I’d like to share a few must-visit places here in Coventry. Now that spring is here, the flowers are blooming, and the sun is finally showing itself, it’s the perfect time to take a break from coursework and explore the city!
This museum beautifully showcases Coventry’s legacy as the heart of the UK’s transport industry. If you’re a fan of cars, bikes, or anything transport-related, it’s a must-see spot. Admission is around £16.50 for adults but students often get a discount so be sure to check the official website for the latest prices and offers.
I had the chance to visit with my friends, and it was such a great experience. From bicycles and motorbikes to classic cars and modern vehicles, you can explore the fascinating evolution of British transport all in one place. What amazed me the most were the record-breaking supersonic cars, ThrustSSC and Thrust2, which are on display.
There are also many vintage cars that are just fun to look at!
As a Korean student, there are times when I have started to miss home-cooked meals. When cooking doesn’t quite satisfy those cravings, Jinseon is the perfect Korean restaurant to visit.
Just like in a traditional Korean BBQ place, you’ll have a grill at your table. They also serve delicious dishes like pajeon (green onion pancake), budae-jjigae (army stew), and even croffle for dessert!
Bonus tip — if you’re looking for Korean ingredients, check out Seoul Plaza and CV Mart!
Wetherspoons – A British Pub Experience
Third on the list is Wetherspoon, a popular and budget-friendly pub chain in the UK, known for its affordable food and drinks.
There are many Wetherspoon locations in Coventry, making it convenient to grab a casual beer or cocktail with friends. I also like to go there with my friends once assignment season is over—to relax and enjoy a drink together.
Since pubs are a big part of British culture, I recommend visiting at least once to experience the atmosphere. Locals often call it “Spoons” or “Spoonies”, so don’t be surprised if you hear those nicknames.
Coventry Canal – a hidden gem
Did you know there’s a canal in Coventry? If you cross the footbridge behind the university accommodation Bishop Gate, you’ll find yourself right by the Coventry Canal.
Now that the weather is getting warmer, it’s the perfect spot for a walk or a light run. It’s also a peaceful place to escape from assignments and take a breather.
Coventry Cathedral
Right next to The Hub, you’ll also find Coventry Cathedral, an absolute must-visit and one of my favourite spots.
The view is stunning, especially in spring when the flowers are in full bloom — it’s even more beautiful. It’s the perfect place to unwind after enjoying a delicious lunch at The Hub — step outside and take a peaceful walk. At night, when the cathedral stands tall and beautifully lit, it brings me a sense of calm and peace.
Don’t miss: Student Life at The Hub
While you’re exploring the city, don’t forget there are also lots of things to see and do around campus. Make sure to check out The Hub, where events are held such as the Fresher Fair held at the beginning of each semester!
You’ll also find study spaces, event information student support and a food court on the second floor, so it’s a great place to visit with friends after class and have a good time!
Final thoughts
Coventry might not be the biggest city in the UK, but it’s full of charm, history, and little gems waiting to be discovered. These five spots have made my experience here even more special, and I hope you get the chance to check them out too!
Whether you're an international student or new to the area—step outside, explore, and make some memories.
