Dr. Rochelle Sassman

My research interest lies in the area of knowledge management, specifically the application of knowledge management in healthcare in developing countries.  I have developed a framework which focused on supporting intra-organisational knowledge sharing in HIV/AIDS NGOs in South Africa, having worked with several HIV/AIDS NGOs in my native South Africa.  In the future, I plan to focus on knowledge management in other health related areas in Africa, having already made links with experts in the field of albinism.

Dr Sassman obtained a BSc(Ed) degree in Mathematics from the University of the Western Cape, South Africa.  She spent several years teaching mathematics and computer studies at secondary and tertiary level in South Africa.  In 2000, she graduated with a MSc in Information Technology for Management from Coventry University after which she was appointed as a lecturer in Computer Science in the former School of Mathematical and Information Sciences.

She was awarded a PhD in 2014 for her research which focused on supporting intra-organisational knowledge sharing in HIV/AIDS NGOs in South Africa, having worked with several HIV/AIDS NGOs in her native South Africa.

Currently, she teaches on a variety of management modules at undergraduate and postgraduate level as well as creating new courses and modules.  She is the course director for engineering business management top-up courses as well as ERASMUS co-ordinator for her department.

Dr Sassman has extensive experience in overseas partnership development.  She is the current link tutor for MBA courses at IAA in Tanzania, having previously undertaken a similar role in SCOPE, Hong Kong.  She has attended several national and international validation events.

Her current research interests lie in the area of knowledge management (particularly around healthcare in developing countries), lean management and internationalisation.
