  • We place a strong emphasis on fieldwork to develop your skills, with opportunities to undertake field trips in the UK and overseas*. Past trips include The Gambia, Morocco, Berlin and the Lake District.
  • All our courses have a strong focus on your future employability. Our graduates have gone on to successful careers in organisations such as the Environment Agency, Met Office, Ordnance Survey, Severn Trent, EON and the Red Cross UK.
  • Our large range of optional modules in geography allows you to tailor your degree to suit your interests, with topics such as climate change, development, alternative subcultures, planning and sustainability.
  • We provide a common first year across our Geography BA (Hons) and BSc (Hons) courses, ensuring you will be introduced to the breadth of the geography discipline.
  • Following successful completion of your second year, you will have an option to apply for a one-year professional work placement or study abroad in a partner institution*.
  • Specialist facilities* include our interactive Simulation Centre, a soils lab, geotechnics lab, CAD studios, map room and high-specification computer lab.

Geotechnics Laboratory  

This specialist lab contains triaxial cells, direct shear box apparatus, a dimensional compression oedometer, California Bearing Ratio apparatus, soil classification equipment and Marshall test apparatus for asphalt mixes.

Simulation Centre

Our Simulation Centre uses an interactive screen and real-life scenarios to create a ‘virtual’ training environment. Role-play exercises are part of the course to help prepare you for situations in the workplace.

Overhead look in a study area

Informal Study Areas

You will have access to a range of informal study areas. These include hot-desk computers, with access to specialist software you may need for studying, and bookable spaces where you can meet with academics or work in small groups.
