A one day course focused on the interpretation and application of Manufacturing Engineering technical product specification, this covers both dimensional and geometrical tolerances (GD&T) and their application.
GD&T is a language of symbols and information often open to varied interpretation. After the obvious cost discussions it is one of the most common ongoing disputes between customer and supplier. This course is designed to introduce the candidate to how tolerances are specified and the good practice application of those tolerances. Covering drawing layout, basic tolerancing and the full suite of GD&T symbols. The course will also cover datum requirements and the mainstream modifiers that are applied.
After this course, you will be able to interpret and apply geometrical dimensional tolerances to a component drawing or CAD model, you will understand common strategies around various measurement applications. Covering the relevant international standards, design intent and the measurement application of GD&T, which do not always align, we will cover common and good practice bearing in mind risk and operational constraints.
- Knowledge of how tolerances are specified and the good practice interpretation of both general and geometrical tolerances to national and international standards
- Understanding technical product definition and specification, including layout, basic tolerancing, the full suite of GD&T symbols and common modifiers
- Applying datum requirements including the constraint and understanding of the six degrees of freedom
- The interpretation and application of geometrical dimensional tolerances to a component drawing or CAD model, you will understand common strategies around various measurement applications. Covering the relevant international standards, design intent and the measurement application of GD&T, which do not always align, we will cover common and good practice bearing in mind risk and operational constraints.
This course is suitable for Measurement Technicians, Inspectors, Production / Manufacturing / Quality / Design Engineers who have to manage design intent, Coordinate Measuring System programmers, Metrologists and anyone who has to read and interpret product specification off either CAD or drawing. As a CPD activity for those with a requirement to plan measurement or understand the results from measurement systems.
How will this course be taught
A one day course either at your site (subject to numbers) or in our dedicated training centres. All materials and equipment is provided by the University including a course workbook.
The course is one day duration from 8:30am till 4:30pm with parking, refreshments and a buffet lunch are included when on our sites.
This is a continual professional development course with a certificate of completion form Coventry University for those that attend.
