A one day course focused on the core and fundamental principles of measurement utilising, basic measuring equipment and first principle techniques. This will include the use of various measurement handtools that are used as examples of good practice and equipment selection.
Measurement and the benefits of newer technology has changed the way we measure, new skillsets are needed. But sometimes we have forgotten the underpinning principles of measurement, the fundamentals required to best utilise existing as well as newer technologies. This course is designed to introduce the candidate to the core measurement principles that underpin not only first principle measurement but also the latest technologies available in measurement today.
The candidate will also learn where metrology sits in modern manufacturing and the standards and traceability that underpin all good measurement. Giving the skills required to understand the principles of core measurement techniques, how measurement variation can influence error and the processes that support good measurement and equipment selection practices.
- To introduce common measurement and metrology principles to underpin first principle measurement, but that can also be related to the latest measurement technologies and practices.
- Create an understanding of best practice considerations with respect to equipment selection criteria, and fundamental measurement strategies and techniques
- Awareness of the common causes of measurement variation and how they can impact measurement results, including techniques to manage them
- Application of first principle measurement equipment and techniques both as component measurement and validation.
This course is suitable for Machine tool operators and shop floor inspectors. Those new to measurement but with a basic understanding of manufacturing. New Coordinate Measuring System operators or Production / Manufacturing / Quality Engineers who wish to apply or manage new part introduction, investigative measurement and process control. Or as part of a programme of learning for measurement technicians and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) for Metrologists.
How will this course be taught
A one day course either at your site (subject to numbers) or in our dedicated training centres. All materials and equipment is provided by the University including a course workbook. You will use a variety of measurement handtools.
- Height Gauge
- Dial Test Indicator
- Gauge Blocks
- Bore Micrometers.
The course is one day duration from 8:30am till 4:30pm with parking, refreshments and a buffet lunch are included when on our sites.
This is a continual professional development course with a certificate of completion form Coventry University for those that attend. This course will count towards professional development of the candidate in respect to metrology skills and knowledge.
