About Alfie
We caught up with one of our final-year creative writing students to celebrate an exciting achievement.
Alfie Thomson, an English and Creative Writing BA (Hons) student, has had his article on global travel predictions for 2025 published in ITIJ (International Travel & Health Insurance Journal). His piece explores trends in global tourism, expatriation, sustainability, and political influences on the travel industry.

Alfie’s thoughts:
“To see this work on a website, let alone a physical magazine you can touch after months of hard work, is borderline overwhelming. This is me on the page, truly, and I remain forever inspired by the love and support shown to me by family and friends, especially my hero of a mother, Jacquie, who must have read hundreds of redrafts.”
Alfie credits his university experience for shaping his writing journey:
“Without all the experiences I’ve had at Coventry University, this piece wouldn’t have happened - the two are intertwined. Experiences like this are a fantastic way to put what I've learned into practice and to really grab this opportunity with both hands!”

He is especially grateful to lecturers Tim Kelly and Lyle Weir for their guidance and encouragement.
“From day one they have encouraged and believed in my potential. This has, in turn, encouraged a work ethic that means I strive to achieve nothing but the very best!”
Reflecting on his time at university, Alfie appreciates how it has strengthened his writing, research, and analytical skills.
“From screenwriting to short stories, I’ve explored different styles and made great friends. My degree has really helped me grow as a writer and a person.”
