Whether you've applied through UCAS, directly to Coventry University, or through an approved representative, this guide explains what your offer means, how to respond and what happens next.

Quick answers

What does my offer mean?

A university offer means we've reviewed your application and would like to offer you a place on your chosen course.

  • Your offer contains important information, including:
  • Your course and intake
  • The type of offer you've received
  • Any conditions you need to meet
  • Important deadlines
  • How to respond
  • The next steps in your application journey.

Where can I view my offer?

UCAS applicants

You can view your offer and any conditions through the UCAS Hub.

Direct applicants

You can view your offer and application details through the Applicant Portal.

International applicants

You can view and manage your application through the Applicant Portal or through your approved representative, where applicable.

What is a conditional offer?

A conditional offer means you've been offered a place but must meet specific requirements before your place can be confirmed.

Conditions might include:

  • Achieving specific grades
  • Providing evidence of qualifications
  • Meeting English language requirements
  • Completing additional course-specific requirements
  • The exact conditions will be explained in your offer information.

What is an unconditional offer?

An unconditional offer means you've already met the entry requirements for your course.

Your place is available if you choose to accept it.

What is an alternative offer?

Sometimes we may make an alternative offer.

This could be:

  • An alternative course
  • A foundation route
  • A different intake
  • A different pathway onto your chosen subject
  • An alternative offer does not mean you've been unsuccessful.

It means we've identified another route that could help you achieve your goals and start your journey with Coventry University.

If you'd like to discuss an alternative offer, our Admissions Team will be happy to help.

How do I accept my offer?

The process for accepting your offer depends on how you applied.

If you applied through UCAS

Once you've received decisions from your chosen universities, you'll be able to respond through the UCAS Hub.

You'll normally be asked to choose:

Firm choice

The university you'd most like to attend.

If you meet the conditions of your offer, this is where you'll study.

Insurance choice

A backup option if you don't meet the conditions of your Firm choice offer.

You can find your reply deadline in the UCAS Hub.

For most applicants, UCAS requires you to make your reply choice before you have received your final grades or met the conditions of your offer.

If you applied directly to Coventry University

You can accept your offer through the Applicant Portal.

Your offer information will explain any deadlines you need to meet.

We recommend responding as soon as you're ready so that you receive important information about accommodation, enrolment and preparing to start university.

Understanding Firm and Insurance choices

If you've applied through UCAS, you'll usually be asked to select a Firm choice and an Insurance choice.

  • What is a Firm choice? Your Firm choice is the university and course you'd most like to attend. If you meet the conditions of your offer, this is where you'll study.
  • What is an Insurance choice? Your Insurance choice is a backup option. If you don't meet the conditions of your Firm choice, you may still be offered a place at your Insurance choice university. Choose an Insurance choice that you'd genuinely be happy to attend.
