Student Wellbeing FAQs

Student Wellbeing Teams are here to support you throughout your studies, our services include;

• Disability and Wellbeing
• Mental health
• Harassment and incident support
• Spirituality and faith

• Advice and guidance from the Wellbeing Team.
• A named contact for care leavers (this means there’s a specific person who can support you during your time at university). This is not available at all campuses, ask your Wellbeing Team for details.
• Help speaking to university staff, if you need it.
• Help finding other services or support that could help you.

You might contact us for help with things like:

• Feeling stressed, anxious or overwhelmed.
• Difficulties with family, friends or relationships.
• Coping after a bereavement or loss.
• Managing after a difficult or traumatic experience.
• Support during pregnancy or becoming a parent.
• Leaving care and settling into student life.
• Balancing your life and studies.
• Getting ready for exams.
• Support for care leavers.

Many care leavers like knowing there’s someone they can turn to, even when things are going well. Our friendly Wellbeing Team is your named contact and here to help whenever you need. You’re always welcome to get in touch for a chat or some extra support.

• Reasonable adjustments and support: we will support you with a disability support plan, and agreed adjustments with your course team.
• Exam arrangements: arrangements can be agreed and put in place to support you with fair assessments.
• Specialist study skills support: One-to-one sessions with a trained tutor.
• Specialist mentoring: Regular check-ins to help with confidence, focus and planning.
• Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA): Guidance and information on DSA.

We want you to enjoy your studies. If you're disabled, have a long-term health or mental health condition (like depression or anxiety), or experience challenges linked to learning differences such as dyslexia, ADHD or autism, our Disability and Wellbeing Team is here to support you.

We will discuss a bespoke support plan with you, giving you the support you need to get the most out of your time here.

Yes, all Coventry University students can access Spectrum.Life, a 24/7 mental health support service offering:

• Immediate help
• Counselling
• Wellbeing resources

Government funding is available to help cover study-related costs; however you would need to check your eligibility. Apply for Disabled Students’ Allowance.

It’s OK to find things difficult sometimes. Many of us feel anxious, low or overwhelmed. We’re here to help and support you through your studies.

How we can support you:

• You can talk one-to-one with a Mental Health Advisor
• We can share tips and resources to help while you wait for an appointment
• We can help if you’re worried about a friend

A parent or guardian can accompany a student to appointments with the Student Wellbeing team, if the student consents for this.

Any previous support you receive does not automatically continue when you start university.

You will need to book an appointment with the university’s Student Wellbeing team to discuss your individual needs and to agree on any reasonable adjustments that can be put into place to support you. It is recommended that you contact the team before you begin your course so that any support arrangements can be set up in advance of the start of your studies with us.

Yes, Student Wellbeing can offer guidance on what evidence is required and how to access or obtain it.

Applicants with personal care needs are advised to make arrangements prior to commencing their studies and ensure they have secured sufficient funding to cover the cost of those arrangements.

The University provides academic enabling support but does not offer personal care support/assistance and cannot cover any related costs.

• Home fee-paying applicants are advised to contact their home area Social Services Department to request a community assessment to discuss a suitable care package which could include provision and funding for a resident or visiting personal carer.
• International applicants are advised to contact UK based personal care agencies prior to coming to University to discuss their needs and any related costs. Care agency assessments and availability of carers varies, therefore, applicants are strongly advised to start making these arrangements and securing funding well in advance.

There are some external organisations that depending on eligibility could offer assistance towards personal care costs. Those include the Bursaries & Awards | Student Health Association, and Grants - Snowdon Trust.

Information shared with Student Wellbeing is kept confidential and is not automatically shared with other university teams. You will be asked to complete a consent form outlining how your information may be used to arrange support, such as reasonable adjustments or exam arrangements. Information is only shared when necessary to provide the support you need. If you have any concerns, a member of the Student Wellbeing team can explain any data-sharing requirements relevant to your circumstances.
