Event details

This event forms part of Coventry University's Festival of Social Science.

Have you ever wanted to explore hands on creation of unique characters? Do you have an interest in Puppetry? Would you like to explore the creative medium of textile?

Build a Puppet is a session where participants will explore character creation, narratives and small-scale puppet making. Participants will design a character through exploring what ‘hero’ means to them, considering what the word means to them, who their personal heroes are and what kind of hero they think the world needs. Participants can be as abstract or literal as they want with their design. There will be colour wheels and other resources to help stimulate ideas on shape and form in connection to character and emotion.

We will use a blend of felt, foam and other waste textiles which is in line with our ethos of upcycling and creative reuse working towards a circular economy and overcoming the environmental damage of the textile industry.

This event will be of particular interest to young people who are considering or currently studying a range of creative subjects from Fine Art, Art and Design, Creative Writing and Theatre Studies.

Who's leading the event?

Indie Prasad is a multi-disciplinary artist with an educational background in Fine Art (BA (Hons) Fine Art and MA in Visual Arts). Her creative practice has involved audio-based work, programming and experimental sculpture for several years and she has been part of several projects, exhibitions and commissions as a freelance AV artist. At FabLab she teaches introductions into programming with microcontrollers, visual data flow programming with audio, processing IDE, E-textiles, basic electronics and audio editing.
