Event details

The Centre for Sport, Exercise and Life Sciences at Coventry University are running a series of exciting one day football events over the school holiday.

Based around research work focused on FUNdamental MOVEment and Football Science we are offering the opportunity for up to 20 children each day to visit our sports facilities and work with us together to develop their football expertise and better understand the science of football. The sessions are open to children, aged 7-13 years, who are currently registered with a grassroots football team playing in the Nuneaton & Bedworth, Tamworth and Coventry Minor Leagues.

COVID risk management protocols are in place to ensure health and safety of the children.

During the events the children will:

  • Experience the type of fitness tests we use with professional senior and academy level footballers.
  • Understand how motion capture is used to assess kicking for real football and in videogames such as FIFA 21.
  • Become familiar with the different types of decision making tests used to identify talent in football.
  • Engage in practical coaching sessions with Uefa A qualified coaches
  • Get involved in fun sessions measuring football skills and movement ability.

The focus will be on a fun experience that develops the children’s football ability but also develops interest in science, learning some new things and creating aspiration.

  • Each day will run from 9.00am-3.00pm and the children will work in and around the sport and exercise laboratories each day. As part of the day we would also like to collect some data related to one of our research projects focused on fundamental movement skills.
  • We have a well-qualified group of staff with extensive experience working with both children in sports settings and in professional football, including experience with Premier League and Championship clubs.
