Figures just released reveal that Coventry University has been awarded a five star overall rating, for the first time, by the QS Stars awards system - confirming the breadth of its excellence across teaching, research and other key indicators.

The QS Stars Awards, which are allocated after a detailed look at an institution, enable students to identify which universities are the best in specific topics, allowing them to match their interests to the universities that are strong in the topics that matter to them.

According to QS, a five star university is “generally world class in a broad range of areas, enjoys a high reputation and has cutting edge facilities and internationally renowned research and teaching faculty”.

QS awarded Coventry University five stars in the teaching, employability, internationalisation, facilities, innovation and inclusiveness categories, highlighting its strengths in the areas of student satisfaction, graduate prospects, global collaborations and diversity.

The university’s medical facilities, student societies, student accommodation, IT infrastructure, and library facilities all scored maximum points in the facilities category.

The university’s increased focus on research and its achievements in this category prompted QS to award Coventry University’s research four stars. In particular, QS said Coventry’s research scored well in terms of its academic reputation, its institutional research collaborations and the quality of its international research.

In addition, Coventry University gained a Specialist Criteria ranking of four stars for its Civil and Structural Engineering degree.

Employability is the strongest of the core criteria, earning a perfect 150 points and 5 Stars in this category. The employability opportunities provided by Coventry for its students are reflected by its impressive graduate employment rate of 97 per cent.

QS report

We are honoured and delighted to have achieved an overall five star rating, validating the excellence Coventry University continues to achieve. I am particularly pleased that the quality of our research has been recognised with the rise to four stars. The teaching experience, the quality of our facilities and satisfaction of our students, both while they are studying and as graduates in the workplace is at the heart of all we do.
