Coventry University Group's second campus in Kazakhstan will be in the city of Almaty
Wednesday 24 June 2026
The first students will walk through the doors of Coventry University Group’s second campus in Kazakhstan this September.
Following the success of Coventry University Kazakhstan in the capital city of Astana, a second campus in the southern city of Almaty has now been approved, making the education group the only British institution with two sites in the country.
The Almaty campus – which will again be a partnership with Primus Capital LLP – will open in September with foundation courses in Business, Computing, International Relations, Engineering and Arts and Design, with undergraduate courses such as Electronic Engineering, Architectural Technology and Games Design and Development, as well as master’s in subjects including Air Transport Management and Control, Robotics and Intelligent Automation, to follow.
Since we began teaching in Astana in 2024, our plans have become bigger and bolder, and we will eventually teach at least 5,000 students from the capital city down to the economic hub of Almaty.
The opportunities are huge in Central Asia and our second campus allows more and more talented people to realise and fulfil their potential, as well as strengthening links with partners and businesses in areas such as engineering, artificial intelligence and construction project management.
Dr Miras Daulenov, President of Coventry University Kazakhstan
The second campus in Kazakhstan was given the full support of the country’s Minister of Science and Higher Education, Sayasat Nurbek, during a visit to Coventry University’s city centre campus in the UK earlier this year.
Mr Nurbek was given a tour of the university’s industry-standard engineering facilities including full-motion aircraft simulators, wind tunnel, Power Wall and the Harrier Jump Jet.
The tremendous work of our colleagues at Coventry University Kazakhstan has not gone unnoticed and they now have the chance to expand our mission of creating better futures to thousands more learners at the second campus in Almaty.
We pride ourselves on creating industry-ready workers who will make an impact on their chosen field and one that will be felt across a variety of sectors and throughout Kazakhstan and Central Asia.
Kazakhstan is a key part of our strategy of teaching where students want to learn and that is increasingly in their home countries. It is harder for students to come to the UK so we are taking quality UK higher education to them.
Professor John Latham CBE, Coventry University Vice-Chancellor and Group CEO
The opening of Coventry University Kazakhstan’s Almaty campus demonstrates our commitment to investing in the future of Kazakhstan through education.
Together with Coventry University Group, we are creating an ecosystem that brings together education, research, innovation and industry. The Almaty campus represents the next phase of this journey, with a particular focus on engineering, artificial intelligence and preparing graduates for the demands of a rapidly evolving economy.
This expansion forms part of a broader investment programme that includes the development of flagship greenfield campuses in Astana and Almaty.
