Coventry University’s new Chancellor says he is excited to get started following his official inauguration during a ceremony at Coventry Cathedral.
Eng Ahmed El Sewedy, the President and CEO of Elsewedy Electric, a global provider of integrated energy solutions headquartered in Egypt, and professional engineer, took up the ceremonial role today (Thursday 21st November).
He replaces Dr Margaret Casely-Hayford CBE who served two terms as Chancellor with a total of seven years in the role.
As I stand here today and look around this amazing venue, I am proud to see people from all walks of life and from every corner of the globe. This is what Coventry University Group is all about – an institution that fosters a vibrant academic community by promoting opportunity and inclusivity.
It is also one of the many reasons why I am excited to get started. I want to ensure that we continue our journey to becoming a truly global education group – widening access for students and opening the doors to businesses across the world as we deliver our shared vision of creating better futures.

Coventry University’s new Chancellor has had a key role in the development of Coventry University’s branch campus in Cairo, known as The Knowledge Hub (TKH). It has proved so successful that a second branch campus on the other side of Cairo in New Zeyad City will soon begin construction. It will be known as TKH West.
Eng El Sewedy’s commitment to education has also led to the creation of Elsewedy Technical Academy offering technical and vocational education and training (TVET), and the Elsewedy University of Technology.
Also accompanying Eng El Sewedy at the ceremony was His Excellency the Egyptian Ambassador to the United Kingdom Sherif Kamel.
Our new Chancellor, Eng Ahmed El Sewedy, is a visionary leader in the world of education and someone that we have worked closely with for many years. His appointment reflects our global outlook as an education group and our ongoing commitment to widening access to quality higher education around the world.
