Coventry University and the City of London Police have partnered to develop a series of online short courses to train police officers across the UK and learners around the globe to combat sophisticated financial and banking fraudsters.

The courses, which are available on the FutureLearn platform, aim to increase learners’ awareness, understanding and knowledge of the types of fraud and how individuals and organisations can better protect themselves.

They offer learners supported online study via short bite-size steps and are accessible on any device for busy people on the move wherever they may be.

The series of short courses opened with a free to access course, Fraud Investigation: Making a Difference, which has now run three times and achieved extremely high levels of participation and progression. The course has been positively received by learners from around the globe, including counter fraud training organisations.

On the course, learners study with the City of London Police to develop the skills needed to conduct an effective and proactive fraud investigation, looking at the key enablers of fraud and learning how to apply the Fraud Investigation Model.

Coventry University and City of London Police have also just launched an exclusive course, Fraud Investigation: Following the Money, for serving police officers across the UK, which was developed following the initial success of the partnership.

Developed with sponsorship from Lloyds Banking Group, the courses are designed by subject experts from Coventry University’s Faculty of Business and Law using Coventry University Online’s unique production methodology, and delivered on the FutureLearn platform.

Coventry University and City of London Police continue to collaborate on further courses to add to the portfolio.

Financial crime is a growth area around the world, with fraudsters becoming ever more sophisticated. It is our privilege to win this competitive contract and to work collaboratively with world experts in financial crime from the City of London Police. This has been a truly successful partnership, utilising the university’s expertise as one of the global leaders in online education. I am pleased to see the impact these courses have started to make and I am looking forward to further collaborations with the City of London Police.
