Karl Stevens

Biography

Karl has over 34 years’ experience working within UK manufacturing both in the industry and education sectors. Karl began by serving a mechanical engineering apprenticeship working on military vehicles and then moved to Aerospace for a further 10 years. In 1995 he moved into Further Education managing the engineering department, introducing new technologies to include Computer Aided Engineering and Statistical Process Control as part of strategic support companies in the adoption of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement, developing a programme of learning to support their needs. Karl has lectured in range of engineering topics focusing on Computer Aided Engineering principles  to include 3D Parametric Design using Computer Aided Design, Computer Aided Manufacture, CNC Part Programming and reverse engineering including Rapid prototyping.

In his role at Coventry University Karl is keen to develop the links between advanced manufacturing and that of dimensional measurement. Enabling industry to benefit from measurement applied in a useful and cost effective way. Karl will also carry on with his passion of working closely with local and national manufacturing / engineering companies, maintaining strong industrial links, helping keep skills high and apply continuous improvement through metrology.
