Public talk with Professor Simon Gilby: Healthcare leadership journey and building effective partnerships

Professor Simon Gilby has an NHS career spanning more than 37 years, Professor Gilby until recently has been Chief Executive of Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust and worked at national, regional and local tiers of the NHS. For the last 21 years he has held CEO/Accountable Officer posts, initially in strategic planning and system leadership roles, and then in service provision roles, mostly within the community and mental health sectors. His passions include working with people who use NHS services to ensure genuinely person-centred care, and with staff in supporting them to do what they do best.

For a number of years, Professor Gilby was an independent governor at Nottingham Trent University and, in 2019, he was awarded an honorary doctorate to acknowledge his services to the NHS and to the university.

Talk focus

Effective leadership and building multi-sectorial partnerships are essential for making and maintaining changes within the healthcare system. Professor Simon Gilby will elaborate on these issues and focus on:

  • His personal leadership journey.
  • What values-based leadership means to him and its impacts.
  • Thoughts on how successfully to build effective partnerships across professional and organisational boundaries.
