Arriving in the UK
Before you travel to join us, there are a few important things to do. Doing these early will make your arrival in the UK easier.
Book your accommodation
If you are moving to be close to campus or to the UK, make sure you’ve arranged a place to live before you arrive. You can choose university accommodation or a private rental. Staying in university accommodation is a great way to meet people and make friends. Take a look on the Coventry University accommodation page.
Be prepared: know your campus
Before you travel, take time to understand where your campus is and how far that is from your accommodation. Use tools like Google Maps to check travel times and routes.
If you're planning to stay with family in the UK, make sure your commute to the campus you apply to is realistic. Getting organised now will make getting to class easier during your studies.
Pay your deposit
Paying your deposit is important and it should be done before you travel. Making this payment confirms your place and makes sure you meet all university and visa requirements.
If your course needs a deposit, please pay it using the Convera payment portal to secure your place. If you don’t pay your deposit, you won’t be able to enrol and you won’t be able to legally remain in the UK.
Prepare your enrolment documents
You’ll need documents like your passport, visa and CAS letter (if you need one) to complete enrolment. Learn more about enrolment.
Plan your travel
Look into your travel options and make sure you have the documents you need for your journey. Planning ahead can make your journey easier.

Health and vaccinations
Make sure you’re up to date with Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR), Meningococcal ACWY (MenACWY), and Tuberculosis (TB) (depending on your country of origin) vaccinations.
If studying a healthcare-related course, check if a COVID-19 vaccination is required.
Bring any necessary medications and prescriptions with you and identify healthcare providers near where you are going to live so you can register as soon as you are able after arrival in the UK.
Financial and insurance preparation
Bring enough money for your initial expenses when you arrive. If possible, consider a prepaid travel card or international debit card as an alternative means of payment.
Plan to open a UK bank account once you arrive – some UK banks offer student discounts so do your research.
Arrange travel insurance to cover your journey and belongings. You may also want to check if your accommodation includes contents insurance to make sure your belongings are covered whilst living in the UK.
Check how to get your student ID card
You’ll need your student ID card to access campus buildings and services. Make sure you have your card ready when you arrive.
Find out more on the Coventry University ID card page.
