Overview

MSc Management is an intensive course designed to prepare successful graduates for a range of high-flying future careers prospects in management and leadership. Whether your goal is to be a self-employed entrepreneur or to manage a large multi-national company or not-profit, upon successful completion of the course the MSc Management course aims to give you the tools you’ll need to succeed.

The course is designed to give you a broad, analytical and integrated understanding of business and international management, and introduces you to issues that you might experience throughout your career – such as technology, diversity, globalisation and sustainability – and how to face them.

In addition, you’ll also be given opportunities to put your education into practice, exploring the world of work through internships.*

Extended Professional Practice

This MSc course is now available with Extended Professional Practice. This 18-month option is aimed at students who are looking to develop a deeper understanding of business in a very practical way. You will undertake two Professional Practice modules which will take the form of either an internship with a host organisation, or a campus-based professional experience. Students are expected to spend twenty-two weeks at one (or more) work setting(s) and will have the opportunity to apply theory to practice. After completing the extended professional practice students are required to produce a substantial problem-based piece of individual written work.

Course information

Our MSc Management course could be the perfect way to kick-start your management career. The course aims to give a thorough understanding of international management, giving you the chance to learn the solid academic and practical foundations needed to thrive in your management career.

It aims to do this through a broad, interdisciplinary education - which includes management, finance, marketing, HR and more - which ensures a comprehensive understanding of how businesses function as a whole.

You should also learn soft skills, such as decision making, problem-solving, teamwork and employee performance management.

Besides lecturers, seminars and our online learning platform ‘Moodle’, you’ll receive continuous exposure to the world of work. The course has been designed to be as practical as possible, which should enabling you to successfully graduate as an experienced, work-ready individual with great employer appeal.

Tutors may organise trips to meet major brand-name companies, and arrange networking opportunities with business owners and managers. You may also have the opportunity to go on a field trip overseas, and have access to an active programme of guest speakers (subject to availability) brings in high-profile figures from the industry.

It’s also important to try and learn from other members of your course, and you should see your fellow students as a source of new understanding. Our international students are encouraged to share experiences and perspectives from their home countries.

This course will be assessed using a variety of methods which could vary depending upon the module. Assessment methods may portfolio, coursework, essays, project work, simulation, group work, presentations, proposal etc.

The Coventry University Group assessment strategy ensures that our courses are fairly assessed and allows us to monitor student progression towards the achieving the intended learning outcomes. Assessments may include exams, individual assignments or group work elements.

On successful completion of the course, a student should be able to:

  • Formulate a systematic understanding and application of relevant knowledge about organisations and the complexities of the external environments that affect organisations at different levels in terms of their strategies, behaviours, management and sustainability.
  • Critically assess organisational strategies and practices in relation to the development of diverse global markets and the expectations of key stakeholders, and make judgements about service and orientations from the perspective of a manager.
  • Appraise the financing of the business enterprise or other forms of organisations by examining the sources, uses and the management of financial information for managerial and financial reporting, and their applications for the efficient management of the organisation.
  • Foster a critical awareness of current trends and issues in business and management and a critical appreciation of relevant theoretical, methodological and technical source material from various business disciplines.
  • Apply relevant knowledge systematically and creatively to a range of complex situations, synthesise data and information in innovative ways and undertake substantial research on a topic relevant to the context and content of international business management.
  • Critically evaluate the perspectives on sustainability and corporate social responsibility in relation to work practice, managing the implication of ethical dilemmas and work proactively with others to formulate solutions.
  • Appraise the development, management and exploitation of relevant information systems and technologies and their impact on communication and operation in organisations within an international knowledge based economy.
  • Develop advanced skills and competencies in self-awareness, independent learning, resilience and personal effectiveness in a variety of team roles and take leadership roles through personal learning and continuous professional development.

In a typical week you will have up to 12 contact hours, with a mix of lectures, seminars and workshops.
