We run written and digital examinations on campus, which may be open or closed book. Your module leader will tell you what type of exam you have. Check the examination timetable for all formal exams. Formal exams do not include Timed Coursework Assessments (TCAs) or phase tests - find details in your AULA space.
Exam schedules
Main exam periods are in week 7 for block-structured courses and weeks 12 and 13 for semester-based courses (including Saturdays). You’ll find all exam periods on the Student Portal exam page.
View the Coventry University London term dates.
Do not book holidays during teaching, exam, or study weeks. The exam timetable is separate from your teaching timetable.
Double-check your exam timetable regularly; missing an exam because you misread the timetable isn’t a valid excuse, and dates can change.
Carefully review exam regulations in Appendix 1 of the General Regulations. These cover exam rules, conduct, and academic honesty. You must follow them at all times.
Individual Exam Arrangements (IEA)
If you have a disability, mental health condition, specific learning difficulty, or long-term medical condition, you can apply for Individual Exam Arrangements (IEA). Possible support includes extra time, rest breaks, readers, or colour overlays.
To apply for an IEA:
- Contact the Health and Wellbeing Team - book an appointment with the relevant team (disabilities or mental health support).
- Complete a data protection form and email it to iea.ss@coventry.ac.uk.
- Provide evidence of how your condition affects you during exams.
For help or questions, contact Health and Wellbeing at 02477658029 or iea.ss@coventry.ac.uk or visit Health and Wellbeing - IEA Student Portal.
Apply at least four weeks before each exam period so we can arrange your support. If you miss the deadline or don’t provide supporting documents, we can’t guarantee IEA will be in place.
Once approved, we’ll update your student record to confirm your eligibility for exam support.
For formal exams, your local Registry team will organise your arrangements. You’ll take your exam in a different location, and will receive an email about your arrangements a week before the exam.
For TCAs and phase tests, let your Local Registry team or Course Leader know at least two weeks in advance if you need in-class or phase test support. They will contact you to let you know about your IEA support for Online exams. Check your Exam Timetable and Virtual Learning Environment for your exam schedule.
