Your Student ID card
Access to services: Your student ID card is essential for accessing a wide range of campus facilities. Whether you're entering the library or using computer labs your ID card acts as your personal key. It ensures that only enrolled students can use these resources, helping maintain a secure and efficient environment for study and recreation.
Attendance monitoring: Your student ID card is also important for keeping track of your attendance. At many lectures and seminars, you’ll scan your card when you arrive. This helps us to support your learning and check in if you miss a few sessions. It’s a simple way to stay connected and make sure you’re getting the most out of your time here.
Remember your card is just for you - never give it to anyone else to use.
Where and when do I collect my student ID card?
When you’ve completed enrolment, you’ll get your student ID card. Here’s everything you need to know about collecting your student ID card.
Collect your card in person from the collection points on campus.

Activation
After collecting your ID card, you’ll need to activate it.
- Wait for at least 15 minutes: After your new card has been printed, make sure you wait for a minimum of 15 minutes before you try to activate your card.
Tip: Only wait to do this if you need your card straight away. You can activate your card the next day or whenever you are back on campus. - Find a Phoenix registration point: Most University buildings have one (or more) Phoenix registration points.
Tip: The Phoenix registration Point in the Hub gets very busy – you can activate your card at any registration point around campus. - Hold your card against the reader (silver box): You can use both sides of the card to do this.
- Wait for 3 seconds until it beeps: Wait until the light flashes green and you hear a beep (this usually takes about 3 seconds). Your card is now activated.
Tip: To make sure your card is working, you can scan it on the green FollowMe pad on any printer on campus. If the light flashes green, then your card has been activated. If it flashes red, go to an Info Point and we can help you.
Replacing your ID card
If you’ve lost it or it’s damaged, here’s how you can get a replacement.
Check if your lost Student ID card has been handed in
If your ID card is handed in at a Customer Service Information Point we will send you an email to let you know we have it ready for collection, we will also send a reminder 2 weeks later to let you know.
Our policy is to keep lost ID cards for up to 4 weeks, so they need to be collected within this window otherwise you will have to apply for a replacement card.
How to apply for a replacement card:
- Fill in the application form - Lost, stolen, or damaged Student ID cards can be replaced at a cost of £10. You will need your Student ID number, personal details, and a credit or debit card to make the payment online (we are unable to take cash payments at the Reception). You will need to fill in an online application form.
- Take the receipt to a Customer Service InfoPoint - Upon completion of payment, you will immediately receive a receipt by email. Present your receipt at The Hub InfoPoint and you will be able to collect your new card. You can show the email on your phone or print it out. You will not be able to pick up a card on behalf of someone else.
