Wellbeing support

Wellbeing

You can get help with your wellbeing and mental health, wherever you are studying. Some services are the same across all locations. This guide explains what support is available and how to get help when you need it.

Wellbeing Support

Our Disability and Wellbeing Teams can help you with personal issues, your health or your studies. Support is confidential and available to all students.

You might contact us for help with things like:

  • Feeling stressed, anxious or overwhelmed
  • Difficulties with family, friends or relationships
  • Coping after a bereavement or loss
  • Managing after a difficult or traumatic experience
  • Support during pregnancy or becoming a parent
  • Leaving care and settling in to student life
  • Balancing your life and studies
  • Getting ready for exams
  • Support for care leavers

How we can help

  • Advice and guidance from the Wellbeing Team
  • A named contact for care leavers (this means there’s a specific person who can support you during your time at university). This is not available at all campuses, ask your Wellbeing Team for details
  • Help speaking to university staff, if you need it
  • Help finding other services or support that could help you

Getting help if you’re a care leaver

Many Care Leavers like knowing there’s someone they can turn to, even when things are going well. Our friendly Wellbeing Team is your named contact and here to help whenever you need. You’re always welcome to get in touch for a chat or some extra support.

Find out more about the support we have for care leavers.

Support if you are disabled or have a long-term condition

If you have a disability, long-term health condition or mental health difficulty that affects your daily life, we can help you look after your wellbeing so you can focus on your studies. Support is available to all students, including those with conditions recognised as a disability under the Equality Act.

What support you can get

  • Confidential advice and guidance from a mental health advisor
  • Practical and emotional support to help you manage your condition
  • Help to apply for Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA), if you're eligible
  • One-to-one support to build coping strategies and study skills
  • Ongoing advice to help you stay on track with your course

You can also access 24/7 mental health support through Spectrum.Life for immediate help, including counselling and wellbeing resources
