Attendance

You are expected to attend all scheduled classes on time and regularly. It’s your responsibility to meet all attendance requirements for each module and your course overall, as outlined in the programme specification.

Why attendance matters

Attending and engaging from the start helps you succeed.

Missing classes can seriously affect your academic success. Students who don’t attend regularly are more likely to fail modules, which can delay or prevent you from earning your degree. Every stage of your course is important, even Stage 1. The knowledge you gain in each stage builds the foundation for later stages.

Attendance is linked to funding and Visa requirements.

External organisations such as the Student Loans Company, professional bodies, sponsoring bodies and the Home Office have specific attendance requirements. They also have the right to request attendance information. If attendance requirements are not met, penalties may be applied, and you may even be required to leave your course.

Important: don’t just stop attending

If something is affecting your ability to attend, speak to your Course Tutor or Course Director. We offer a range of support services, from study support to health and wellbeing, that may be able to help.

Attendance monitoring

We monitor attendance throughout your studies. This may include checking your use of facilities like the library and IT systems. Your student ID card will also be used to record attendance when you access University buildings, classrooms and services, and you must ‘tap-in’ at your timetabled sessions to let us know you have attended.
Important: Using someone else’s ID card to tap-in to a timetabled session, or asking someone to use yours, is considered misconduct and can lead to disciplinary action being taken against you.
