Student Handbook

Key information to note

This section provides essential guidance but is not part of the formal University regulations. If there’s any conflict, the formal regulations take precedence.

The term ‘University’

Whenever we mention ‘the University’ in the student handbook, we’re referring to all academic institutions within the Coventry University Group including Coventry University, Coventry University London, CU Coventry, CU Scarborough, CU London.

Email correspondence

  • All official e-mail correspondence will be sent to your University email account. You can find information on how to set-up your student account on Student Central.
  • We only respond to emails sent from your university email address.
  • It’s your responsibility to check your inbox regularly. Missing important updates because you didn’t check your email won’t be accepted as a valid reason if you fail to meet any requirements.
  • We do not offer e-mail forwarding to personal accounts.
  • If you wish to continue using your university email account after you graduate, make sure to log in regularly. Once closed accounts cannot be reinstated.

Know what's expected of you

Make sure you read the key course information available on your online learning platform. This helps you understand what’s expected. Make sure you read:

  • This student handbook
  • Your course specification
  • Your module information

Active learning

During your course, you’ll take an active role in your learning. This means working on your own and with others – through group projects, discussions in class and online activities. As you progress, your ideas and understanding will be challenged, helping you to gain fresh insights and useful skills you can apply in future employment and in everyday life.

Our Student Contract lays out our mutual responsibilities and aspirations.

Student code of conduct

The Student Code of Conduct can be found in Section 2 of the University’s General Regulations. In addition to guidance on study-related conduct, it sets expectations for student behaviour, including personal responsibility, respect for others, and care for the University community. Students are required to carry their ID cards, follow safety regulations, and respect campus property and facilities. The Code also covers conduct around drugs, alcohol, noise and games, and use of electronic devices and recordings. Following these guidelines supports a safe, positive campus environment.

Submitting documents

If you’re submitting documents to comply with University procedures (e.g. evidence to apply for extenuating circumstances) and they’re not in English, you must provide a certified translation. It‘s your responsibility to arrange this.

International student UKVI obligations

If you’re an international student, you will be asked to attend a UKVI immigration document check. You must attend the check so that we can meet our joint UKVI obligations. We’ll notify you by your University email with the date, time, location and documents required. Not attending a check could put your visa at risk.

Attendance

You are expected to attend all scheduled classes on time and regularly. It’s your responsibility to meet all attendance requirements for each module and your course overall, as outlined in the programme specification.
