Work–life balance
Coventry University is fully committed to the promotion of equality and recognises that employees have to balance the demands of their home and working life. Therefore, we have adopted a range of ‘family-friendly’ policies to cover areas including flexible working, home working, job sharing and flexible retirement. The following is a selection of just some of the family-friendly policies Coventry University offers.
Flexible working scheme
Coventry University understands that there may be times when variations to contractual hours of work would be helpful to employees. As part of our ongoing commitment towards being able to recruit and retain a flexible and diverse workforce, the Flexible Working Scheme document (pdf, 320kb) has been developed in line with legislation and forms part of a wider range of ‘family-friendly’ policies/procedures.
Job share scheme
Our job share scheme allows employees to share the duties and responsibilities of one full time post and is aimed to accommodate those with child/dependent care responsibilities or those enrolled on a part time course. The policy for the Job Share Scheme (pdf, 300kb) is available to download.
Location Independent Working (LIW)
Our LIW scheme allows you to work at an alternative place (or places) rather than within the University offices. Your line manager will be able to confirm if you are eligible for independent working. The policy for LIW is available to download (pdf, 300kb).
Maternity leave
The Maternity Leave and Pay policy (pdf, 302kb) provides information on entitlements for staff wishing to take maternity leave. Coventry University offers an enhanced maternity pay scheme which is over and above the statutory amount. The option to extend the leave period is also available.
Paternity leave
Following the birth of a child, eligible employees can take paid paternity leave. The option to extend the leave period is also available. The Paternity Leave and Pay policy (pdf, 207kb) is available to download.

Working parents can save up to £933 on childcare costs per year.
